The Midtown Greenway, from the initial use of the railroad to its current conversion as bike path, demonstrates a continued evolution towards a sustainable, socially-responsible urban area. With the historical and present aesthetics of the Greenway serving as inspiration, the Urbain Design Collaborative is proposing a mixed-use development that would continue the Greenway’s history of encouraging neighborhood cohesion and environmental consciousness to the buildings that border the Greenway. The proposed development, housing a small number of residences, office and retail space, and a potential café that extends to the Greenway level, will encourage a community focus along the Greenway that also strongly utilizes ecologically responsible design techniques. With many citizens beginning to reconsider their individual environmental impacts, this development will enable residents and business owners to live in a sustainable manner like few other buildings in the metropolitan area.
