PHASE III: East

The eastern segment (Phase III to those in the know) goes from Hiawatha Avenue to West River Parkway. Hennepin County owns the southern 35 feet of the corridor which is still used by freight rail.  A fence separates the active rail line from the bicycling and walking trails.  This segment is primarily industrial in character, with the east end having more large open spaces
and large business parcels than the western portion. Brackett Park at 36th Avenue is a large park on the south side of the corridor and is the only park land  contiguous to the Greenway along its entire length.  There is a pedestrian tunnel under the Greenway at 38th Avenue which links residents north of the corridor -to Brackett Park and the Greenway. The  trails start at grade at the western end and gradually rises as you proceed east so that it is elevated about 15 feet by 36th Avenue (Brackett Park). The Greenway separates the two neighborhoods in this segement. The neighborhoods are represented by the Longfellow Community Council - www.longfellow.org and the Seward Neighborhood Group - www.sng.org
