Nicollet Avenue Transit Station, Entrance & Greenspace

The local residential and business communities as well as elected leaders generally agree that severing Nicollet Avenue to construct a Kmart store on Lake Street has effected the life of a main thoroughfare of Minneapolis and Hennepin County for 25+ years. Many support re-opening of Nicollet Avenue and establishing a stronger interface with the Greenway. Based on guidelines from the City of Minneapolis land plan “Lake Street/Midtown Greenway Corridor Framework Plan” (October 1999), and input from both the Whittier Alliance and the Lyndale Neighborhood Association, the ideal solution includes more land north of the Greenway dedicated to a graceful entrance ramp to replace the cramped and hidden entrance ramp that exists there now , as well as space for place-making on the south side of the Greenway for a future rail transit station.
