Personal Rapid Transit

Minneapolis 6th Ward Council Member Dean Zimmerman has proposed a $500-$600 million Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system serving south Minneapolis. Since one leg will traverse the Midtown Greenway, it will have a significant impact on the Greenway and has implications for the streetcar system for which the Midtown Greenway Coalition has been an advocate. As a result, the next two meetings (March and April) of the Coalition's Streetcar Committee will be dedicated to information gathering about PRT. Policy statement(s) about PRT to be forwarded to the Coalition Board will be discussed at the May meeting.

At its June 8, 2006 meeting the Midtown Greenway Coalition's Board of Directors passed a resolution regarding PRT. To read that resolution, click here.
