Heads Up, Buddy Up!

The Coalition has launched a new safety program to encourage safer riding on the Midtown Greenway bike trail. Potential participants in the Buddy Up program will be verified by two individuals already in the safety program and asked to sign a waiver statement, and then will be given a spoke card to display on their bike. This signifies they are willing to buddy up with other solo riders on the trail. Join us with Heads Up, Buddy Up! to make the biking community safer!
This program was initiated in hopes of decreasing the number of individuals riding solo after dark, since all but one of the limited number of crimes against bikers on the Greenway in the last 10 years involved a solo rider. While we hope the Heads Up, Buddy Up! program will alert riders to safe and aware individuals riding the trails, the most important way to stay safe while biking the Greenway after dark is to arrange for a friend to ride with you before departing.
Please contact us at the Coalition office if you’re interested in participating or have questions about the program: trailwatch<at>midtowngreenway.org 612-879-0106
Trail Watch

Our Trail Watch program is now in full swing! We are asking all interested volunteers to consider choosing a night to make a commitment to being a scheduled weekly Trail Watcher. As we continue our season of Trail Watch rides in the Greenway, we have the greatest need for weekly committed Trail Watch volunteers, but we’d love to have anyone involved, even for a single night . With your help we can make the Greenway a safe place, day and night.
SCHEDULED TRAIL WATCH
Scheduled Trail Watchers are people who fill out a waiver statement and ride the Greenway on scheduled shifts, working in conjunction with police and other scheduled Trail Watchers on the group ride. Trail Watchers do not intervene in incidents they come across in the Greenway, rather they're a friendly presence on the trail and report criminal or intimidating behaviors that are noticed during the shift.
INCENTIVE PROGRAM
Total incentives for Trail Watchers by number of rides attended are as follows:
Thanks to our sponsors for their donations to the incentive program! We'd especially like to thank Wells Fargo for their $1,100 grant to continue development of our Trail Watch program.
